Survey at the gates!

At about 3:15 (on online safety) day we went outside the school gates and went to find out parents opinions and views about online safety and about their children's connections with it. We asked these questions: How often do you talk to your child about online safety? Does your child use social media? Do you think school prepares your children for the risks they face online?

The parents survey was very interesting to hear what they thought about online safety. In total we managed to speak to an outstanding 35 children's parents about online safety. Shockingly 49% of parents talk to their children less than once a month about staying safe online. We had mixed feelings about this: worried, scared and all others. We think parents should be talking about online safety more at home.

Through talking in class, we discussed lots of problems children were experiencing and we talked lots about how if they had talked to their parents they might not still be worrying them.

As a result we hope to encourage any parents reading to talk to their children tonight about what they have learnt to begin the conversations that will hopefully be ongoing! If you are unsure about how to start or maintain these conversations, please fill in the Online Safety Family agreement that your child brought home to encourage discussion.
