A Y6 girl comments on the 'friendly' community of Roblox

After a friend recommended Roblox –which is an online game where you can talk to people and play a wide range of games- I didn’t hesitate to give it a go. At first, I was loving the games. Soon after I started, I found a school role play game. I joined and decided that it was my favourite game out of all the roblox games. Obviously, I never spoke to strangers since I knew it was wrong. It wasn’t long before something happened and changed my thought of Roblox forever…

Firstly, somebody came up to me and called me an idiot for no reason! I was startled by this however I tried to let it go. Almost immediately after, many more people came and did the same! Once again, I tried to forget about it. I knew that bullies were only people who were jealous or were having their own problems. This helped me through until they started calling me a cry baby and began to follow me around the map. I couldn’t deal with it anymore; I left the game. Afterwards, I tried to re-join so I could play more without being harassed. Unfortunately, I ended up in the same server with the same people.

To resolve the problem, I told my parents and they told me to try and ignore it. However, it continued. I hadn’t done anything to them! I hadn’t even spoke! I told my parents again and they told me to go to my sister- who told me how to block and report them.

Now I know what to do, I won’t let people get to me and I will report and block them immediately. I still play Roblox today and I am almost constantly playing. I only speak to people I know unless they are my friends family and still enjoy playing the same game mode today. Now I have experienced it, I want people to understand the effects of bullying and to know what to do when it happens.
